DirectBuy’s Second Annual Food Drive
April 15, 2015
DirectBuy’s Merchandise Services teams wrapped up their second annual food drive last week for the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana located in Gary, IN. This year, the teams collected 478 pounds of food. This equals over 398 meals for children, families, and seniors throughout Lake and Porter Counties in Indiana. The teams also presented a $50 check to the food bank.
“After last year’s success, the director of the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana asked if we would be interested in doing another food drive,” said Brooke Leonard, Merchandising Specialist with DirectBuy and coordinator of the food drive. “We really enjoy working with the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana. They are truly excited to work with us and are full of positive energy.”
“The DirectBuy food drive came at such a critical time. It is very common for people to think of others during the holidays, but hunger does not end after the holidays,” said Victor Ortiz, Project Manager at the Food Bank of NWI.
For over 30 years, the Food Bank of NWI has acquired, stored, and distributed nearly 4.5 million meals annually through the 100+ partner agencies, including soup kitchens and food pantries, as well as hunger relief programs. It is a USDA approved distributor of food through The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) and a member of the nation's largest food bank network, Feeding America. The food bank also provides programs and services that help educate and empower individuals to make healthy eating choices for themselves and their families.
